Cast of Characters

  • DH/SM
Dear Husband/Solution Man - ever ready to offer a solution to the current dilemma, conundrum or quandry. One heck of a smart guy who is right 99% of the time. Newspaper, blackberry and Drudge junkie. Rather old fashioned about things, in a positive sense. Love of my life.
  • SMH
Our sole male heir, the eldest, ring-leader of The Gang, age 11 going on 30. Very longsuffering and mostly even-tempered. A very fine fellow. Sleeps on his floor most nights even though he's got the best mattress in the house. Lego enthusiast. No, Lego fanatic. Like Fan Boy Fanatic. The Alpha. And promises to always be my little boo-boy....
  • HRH 1/BB
Her Royal Highness #1/Bunny Ballerina - our oldest girl, dangerously close to 10 years old, the "little mother" of The Gang, dyslexic and all that that entails, incredibly precious dancing girl. The first of our progeny to inherit what DH calls my "Bottle Nosed Dolphin forehead." Sleeps between me and DH many nights. Also, a mini-me.
  • HRH 2/TS - Reepicheep
Princess #2, age 8 going on 18, a tightly wound Titanium Spring. Bounces and bounds everywhere. Full of energy and passionate about most everything; occasionally angry. We call her Reepicheep, after the mighty mouse of Narnia. Sleeps on my left side every night. The best prayer warrior I've ever heard. She really gets it.
  • HRH 3/KC/SB
Princess numero tres/Kit-cat/Beezer - age 6 1/2. Used to be a skinny little thing until her tonsils/adenoids came out and now she's a squeezer beezer who still eats like she did when we were trying to put weight on her. A very earnest soul, sorrows at injustices (esp. towards her) and coloring enthusiast. Is totally psyched about being in First Grade this year. Likes to sleep at the foot of our bed.
  • HRH 4/SK
Princess #4/the SideKick - age 5, going on 25. Petite sprite who likes to be where the action is. A strong carrier of my Bottle Nosed Dolphin forehead. Just broke through the terrible two's and three's and is likable again! Actually rather fun to be with now! Sleeps with feet in DH's face. So stinkin' cute, too. The Omega (for now).
  • ATP
The Answer to My Prayer - my almost 16 year old babysitter who came to us at the tender age of 8 when The Gang was just SMH and the first two Princesses and from the start was exactly what God knew I needed - He didn't send a maid or a nanny or babysitting co-op. He sent this wonderful soul who is a part of our family and loves to play with my loud, rowdy kids and works all around the house with a servant's heart and watches "The Office" with me. And she lets me "pay" her in Swedish Fish and Target runs and Pasta Roni. Everybody needs one of these. But you can't have mine! P.S. She's about to get her learner's permit! Way cool!!
  • YT/WIP
Yours truly, a work in progress in the hands of our great God who clearly has a sense of humor and who clearly has lots for me to learn in this sacred vocation (i.e. being me).
  • Doggie Boy
Canine. A bit of an air-head. Husky-shepherd mix. A large dog who is terrified of trash trucks and fireworks. Otherwise a pretty good guard dog and doesn't mind being loved on by all the girls. He and SMH truly do show a strong resemblance.
  • Kitty cat
When we got the dog at the shelter they told us under no circumstances should we try and keep any small critters or cats as pets. So we got a cat this Christmas. Going out, I felt, on a bit of a theological limb, I told the kids to pray that Buster would not eat her when we brought her home and, further, that they might even learn to live together in peace and harmony. Aside from her trying to chase his tail and eat his food, they do so. Now I can see what it will be like one day when the lion lies down with the lamb. P.S. She's really cute, too!
